The Mexica (Aztecs) began a journey from the southwest US that would see them reach the valley of Mexico. The chosen place would be on a lake where they would find an Eagle perched on a cactus. The symbol that became the center of the Mexican flag.
Hummingbirds are a powerful symbol, particularly associated with the sun god Huitzilopochtli and the souls of warriors. They represent strength, energy, and vigor, and are believed to be messengers.
Hummingbirds are also seen as a symbol of renewal, with warriors believed to be reborn as hummingbirds after death.
The hummingbird told the people Mexica Tiahui (Mexica people keep moving forward).
Our resiliency in the face of adversity is found in our constant forward movement.
We keep moving forward. Mexica Tiahui
